  • Canoe-dling for canine cash

    Kevin Unitt

    01 May 2008

PADDLERS of all abilities are urged to enter this year's charity Doggy Paddle on the Rivers Leam and Avon on May 11.
For more than 20 years the annual event - organised by Leamington Canoe Club with the support of the British Canoe Union - has raised money for charity, with proceeds going to The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Starting by Edmondscote Sports Field in Leamington at 9.30am, the paddle will finish around four hours later at the Recreation Ground in Stratford.
The 19-mile journey takes paddlers along a scenic route through Leamington, the grounds Warwick Castle and on past Charlecote Manor to Stratford.
Money is raised through sponsorship and entry fees of £3 for children and £7 for adults.
Entrants need only to have a canoe or kayak and be able to self rescue and paddle in a straight line. Leamington Canoe Club has expressed thank to those landowners along the river who have given permission for the event to pass through.
For sponsorship forms email info@doggypaddle.org.uk, or send a stamped-addressed envelope to Connel Williams, 135 Cubbington Road, Leamington, CV32 7AP. For further information visit www.doggypaddle.org.uk
