RISING star Di Xiao opens the annual Concerts in Warwickshire Churches series at St Mary the Virgin in Ullenhall near Henley on May 9.
The young Chinese pianist has been hailed as one of the biggest talents ever to emerge from Birmingham Conservatoire.
Di Xiao has been chosen to represent Symphony Hall, where she has already played a couple of times, in the Rising Star series, which will take her to major concert halls on the continent, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and other venues in Cologne, London, Paris and Vienna.
Di Xiao gave a rapturously received concert in the Town Hall in Stratford last June for the Stratford on Avon Music Festival.
For her Ullenhall concert she will perform Mozart's Piano Sonata in F K332, two Impromptus by Schubert, the Preludes Opus 28 by Chopin and Ravel's great virtuoso work Miroirs.
The concert is dedicated to the memory of Charles and Hilda Bottoms, following the death of Charles Bottoms this January. He had funded concerts in Ullenhall church since 1992, when the Sorrel String Quartet played there for Warwick Arts Society.
Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are £10 (£1 for children and students) and can be booked in advance by calling 01926 776438 or online at www.bridgehousetheatre.co.uk.
Future concerts in the series include the Badke String Quartet at Harbury on June 6 with and Compagnia d’Istrumenti with a baroque programme at Snitterfield on June 14.
