Racing held up in finishing straight

RACING Club Warwick will not finish their Polymac Services Midland Alliance campaign after their penultimate game of the season at Oldbury United was postponed on Thursday.
The season officially ended on Saturday which leaves no time for the game to be rearranged although that was due to be ratified at a league meeting on Tuesday night which would also have decided on Oldbury’s punishment and whether Racing will be awarded the points.
Racing boss Bobby Hancocks said: “I received a call at 5pm on Thursday to say the game was off and I don’t know what’s going to happen.
“But the league season has finished as far as we’re concerned and the lads are going on an end of season trip to Bournemouth this weekend.”
Oldbury, who gound share with Pelsall Villa, drew 2-2 at Biddulph Victoria on Tuesday and then lost 1-0 at home to Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday which quashed rumours that they had folded.
Racing, who finished 18th in the table, squandered a two goal lead and went down 3-2 at runners-up Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday.
Ryan Howell fired Racing ahead with a crisp left-foot shot into the bottom corner and keeper Scott Handley protected the advantage by pulling off a string of fine saves.
Racing, who always looked dangerous on the break, increased their advantage 60 seconds into the second half when Matt Blair burst between two defenders and fired home.
Blair also wasted two clear-cut chances with just the keeper to beat, while Glen Jones fored inches over the bar before Loughborough reduced the arrears against the run of play with the aid of a cruel deflection.
The hosts equalised with a fine 20-yard strike and Kris Nurse, who was fortunate to stay on the pitch following a clash with Racing defender Levi Bailey, hit the winner.
Hancocks added: “We played very well and could have been four goals ahead before they got back into it and then they threw evenything at us apart from the kitchen sink.
“It was a disappointing result but a decemt performance and we’ve shown in recent weeks that we can compete with the best.
“We only had ten points at the end of November and nobody would have believed that we could turn it around and pick up 35 points in the last five months.”
