Good reaction to Saints plans

SOUTHAM United Football Club officials have been encouraged by the initial reactions to plans for a £2m sports and community hub to replace their current Banbury Road headquarters.

The development will provide state-of-the-art facilities for the 230 playing members of the club, including its Midland Football Combination Premier Division side.

Alongside the excellent new facilities for the football club and Southam United Bowling Club will be more than 200 new homes, of which about a third will be affordable housing. There are also plans for a residential care facility for older people.

As well as writing to every household in the town, local residents were invited to a public exhibition in the clubhouse last weekend and around 150 people took time to look at the proposals and question officials.

Chairman Charles Hill said: “Despite the freezing weather, we had an encouraging turnout for the two-day exhibition and there was an overwhelmingly favourable response from members of the public with a lot of very positive comments.

“We are grateful to everyone who came and will be taking into account all the views expressed during the consultation in drawing up our final plans.”

For those unable to attend last weekend, the exhibition information is on view at Southam Library until Saturday. Questionnaires will also be provided inviting comment.
