Cricket
Ashes test for Hollingsworth

07/03 Updated: 07/03 15:45

LEAMINGTON cricketer Justin Hollingsworth will be facing an Ashes battle this summer.

The talented 15-year-old Arnold Lodge School pupil has earned selection to the England Visually Impaired squad for a Test series against the Australians.

The series starts at Great Malvern College on May 26 when Hollingsworth will be hoping to make his international debut.

Hollingsworth was just three-years-old when diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa which eventually leads to total blindness.

He was a keen cricketer and played red ball cricket up to 2009 for Leamington Cricket Club and his school.

But he found it increasingly difficult to continue with red ball cricket and with his family’s determination, eventually found the Warwickshire Bears Visually Impaired cricket team.

Hollingsworth quickly adapted to the new ball and rules of the game and scored his first century for Warwickshire against South Wales in July 2010.

He was then invited to attend England trials and has impressed the selectors enough to secure his place in the squad.

In addition to the Test series a T20 game is being planned for Leamington Cricket Club, Justin’s home ground and now home of the Warwickshire Bears Visually Impaired team.
