BUBBLING Racing Club Warwick marched into the Birmingham County FA Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup final following an impressive 2-0 victory at Black Country Rangers on Tuesday night.
Racing quickly stamped their authority on the semi-final tie and deservedly beat the free scoring West Midlands Regional League Premier Division leaders who have notched no fewer than 118 goals in 33 league fixtures.
Leon Thomas opened the scoring with a well struck shot from the edge of the area and substitute Tyron Smith sealed victory with a close range strike two minutes from time.
Racing’s opponents in the final will be Gornal Athletic who beat Bolehall Swifts 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out after their semi-final clash ended 0-0 after extra-time.
Gornal are currently second in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division, five points behind Black Country Rangers but with three games in hand.
Meanwhile, Racing suffered a 3-2 Athium Midland Combination Premier Division defeat against mid-table rivals Earlswood Town at Hampton Road on Saturday.
Racing got off to the perfect start with Ricardo Richards firing them ahead as early as the third minute but the visitors hit back strongly and took control thanks to goals from Reece Hewitt, Django Farrell and Simon Volanti.
Luke Fuller reduced the arrears in the 82nd minute but Racing were unable to conjure up an equaliser.
Racing entertain lowly Bartley Green this Saturday (3pm).
