LILLINGTON Bowls cue-man Geoff Barrett has claimed the Midlands Amateur Billiards title at Parkstone WMC in Coventry.
He defeated ex-BBC snooker commentator Clive Everton in the semi-finals, while Peter Shelley overcame another Leamington and District League player Richie Evans in the last four.
The two-hour final began slowly with Barrett taking an early lead of 45 points.
Barrett increased his lead to almost 100 points before Shelley found his scoring touch and reduced the margin to just 30 points with 15 minutes remaining.
As time began to run out some very serious tactical play reigned but Shelley resumed scoring.
He looked like clinching the title in the dying seconds, only to run out of time as the bell sounded when he was poised to make the winning shot, leaving Barrett the winner by 349-347.
