Racing Club pipped in Ricoh final

A LAST-GASP goal sentenced Racing Club Warwick to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Christ The King  in the Coventry Charity Cup final at the Ricoh Arena on Friday night.

The Coventry Alliance outfit went close after five minutes when Jason Cherrington fired into the side netting.

Racing responded with a corner from which Aaron Nevin’s header was cleaed off the line, while Leon Blake was just off target with a 20-yard strike.

Ricardo Richards was also thwarted by a goal-line clearance and Leon Thomas saw a well struck shot flash inches wide of the post midway through the second half.

Racing continued to look the most likely winners but they were stunned in stoppage time when Andy Morris curled a 20-yard free kick into the top corner.

Racing returned to Athium Midland Combination Premier Division action less than 24-hours later and lost 2-1 at Pershore Town on Saturday.

Racing were due to complete their league campaign at Walsall Wood on Tuesday night but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. It has been rearranged for this Saturday (3pm).

Racing bring the curtain down on their season when they face Division One outfit Feckenham in the Les James Memorial Challenge Cup final at Walsall FC’s Bescott Stadium on Tuesday, May 8. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
