A GULF War veteran from Leamington is compiling a roll of honour to help keep alive the memory of all those from the town who died during and since the Second World War.

David Eason, GCM (Gulf Campaign Medal) of Acacia Road, previously completed a roll of honour for the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own) - which is available to view here on our website - and has also now turned his attention to a list specific to fallen soldiers from Leamington.

Each will have their own entry to include pre-war history, service history including circumstance of death, photographs of their headstone/memorial where possible plus private photographs of himself and finally his descendants/relatives own dedication if they can be traced and wish to contribute.

Mr Eason told the Observer: “I want to do this as these soldiers were all local and a list specific to Leamington has never been done before.

“These stories must never be lost and I would like to include as much information about each person as I can.

“I hope the roll of honour can eventually go up on a Leamington war memorial website for all to view.”

Among the number of Leamington soldiers is a trooper William Lindon of 3rd Royal Tank Regiment, who died aged 21 in July 1942 in El Alamein, Egypt. He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Lindon of Leamington.

Mr Eason is also seeking more information regarding what happened to the Leamington Ford Motor Company War Memorial 1935-1945 and the Lockheed Brakes Sports and Social Club War Memorial 1939-1945.

Anyone with information can call him on 07896 201176 or email easondavid45@yahoo.co.uk.

In the pages below we will show the rolls of honour, photographs and information he has thus far collected.
