Four held after Leamington shopkeeper attacked

FOUR men were arrested after a Leamington shopkeeper was attacked in his store.

It is believed the four men, from Warwick, entered Johnny's Supermarket in Shrubland Street, Leamington old town, to steal booze just before 11pm on Tuesday evening (May 22).

Police believe a woman may have intervened when the altercation spilled out into the street and the men fled with a small quantity of wine and beer.

Shortly after the incident officers stopped a vehicle near Junction 14 of the M40 and arrested four men inside on suspicion of the assault.

The men, aged 17, 17, 21 and 23, spent the night in police custody and were later bailed pending further enquiries.

The male shopkeeper suffered from shock and cuts and bruises and was taken by ambulance to Warwick Hospital for assessment and treatment before later being discharged.
