LEAMINGTON opened their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 3-1 victory at Sutton Coldfield on Tuesday night.
The Evo-Stik Northern League Division One South hosts took an early lead through Harry Harris but Brakes gradually adapted to the 3G surface and Liam Daly equalised with a powerful header.
Brakes wasted a good chance to go ahead after the break when Michael Touhy was fouled in the area but Stephan Morley’s penalty was smartly saved by Paul Hathaway.
But Paul Holleran’s side did get their noses in front midway through the second half when Matt Dodd converted a second spot-kick after he had been tripped in the area.
Victory was sealed 15 minutes from time when substitute Richard Batchelor was on hand to head home Morley’s near post free kick.
Brakes continue their warm up for the new season by entertaining Blue Square Bet Premier Division play-off semi finalists Mansfield Town at the New Windmill on Saturday (3pm).
The Nottinghamshire outfit were one of the form sides in non-league’s top tier last time out and manager Paul Cox has signalled his intent to go one better this time and get the club back into the Football League by making nine new signings, many from league rivals, to strengthen his squad.
Admission to the game is £5 for adults, £3 concessions, £1 for under 16’s and free for under 12’s.
Brakes other pre-season friendlies include a trip to Coventry Sphinx on Saturday, July 21 (3pm) before entertaining Birmingham City on Wednesday July, 25 (7.30pm).
Brakes play host to Brackley Town on Saturday, July 28 (3pm), visit Nuneaton Town on Saturday, August 4 (3pm) and entertain Worcester City on Saturday, August 11 (3pm).
The Southern League fixtures for the new season have been delayed. They should have been issued last Friday but will not be released until Wednesday (July 18).
Meanwhile, Brakes have been drawn to face old adversaries and Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division rivals Stourbridge at the New Windmill Ground in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday, September 8.
Brakes are on their travels in the FA Trophy first qualifying round having been drawn to visit either Loughborough Dynamo or Belper Town.
Both teams compete in the Evo-stik Northern League Division one South and the tie is scheduled for Saturday, September 29.
