Teenagers set for Stoneleigh driving event

TEENAGERS keen to accelerate their driving experience are invited to put the pedal to the metal at Stoneleigh Park this weekend.

The Young Driver event, to be held on Saturday (October 20), offers 11 to 17 year olds the chance to brake with tradition and drive a car in a safe but realistic environment.

With dual controlled cars, tuition provided by qualified CRB-checked driving instructors, a mixture of beginners’ zones and a full road system with traffic signs, junctions and parking areas, youngsters are encouraged to consider responsible driving.

A personalised Drive Diary can chart how they do and when the young person is ready to take to the roads at 17, their driving instructor will instantly be able to see their previous experience.

Ian Pegler, chief executive for Stoneleigh Park, said: “With one in five young people crashing within six months of passing their tests, anything that reduces accidents among this group is a good thing.

“We hope the Young Driver scheme will make a huge difference when it is time for these youngsters to take to the roads for real.

“There is plenty of room here for driving challenges and we have parking for 30,000 cars so there are many places to try out a reverse parking manoeuvre!”
