Mrs Shakespeare visits Stratford on Avon

THE BARD is far from himself in Mrs Shakespeare at The Bear Pit in Stratford from February 16 to 19.

Ian Wild’s comedy finds the playwright reincarnated as a woman, in a mental asylum, and having come to the conclusion she made a complete mess of writing Hamlet 400 years earlier.

Armed with a quill and beset by a rebellious cast of characters who are anxious not to be rewritten, she embarks on an epic reformulation of theatre’s most famous text under the new title of Opheila.

Unfortunately, William’s therapist is unsympathetic. Is that because he is also a reincarnated Christopher Marlowe, consumed with envy that has been festering away since 1597?

American actress Irene Kelleher stars in the one woman show which performed off Broadway last October.

Irene mad eher UK debut as Maria in ‘Stars in the Morning Sky’ at Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre in 2012, and more recently played a lead role in Desolate Heaven.

Visit www.rsc.org.uk for ticket details. The hour long show starts nightly at 8pm.
