PLAYBOX Theatre is bringing the circus to town.

The Warwick-based young people’s theatre company present all the thrills and spills of the Big Top in Circus Wonderia from August 5 to 9.

Wonderia – taking place in specially designed circus arena at company’s Dream Factory headquarters – is a celebration of the clown across history.

This show – which features everything from singing and dancing to juggling and tumbling – was first created by Playbox Theatre for the G8 Conference at the Houses of Parliament in 2013, attended by government leaders and delegates from the major event. I

The circus features a cast of 21 young artists and actors featuring trapeze, acrobatics, unicycle, stilt-walking, acrobalance, wirewalking and clowning in a show paying tribute to the Golden Age of circus clowning.

Audiences arriving early can explore the backstage world of the Big Top, Kate Unwin, designer of the show, has created a series of booths and interactive interiors for children to try costumes, makeup and have photos taken of their day with the circus.

Playbox founder Mary King said: “Across the globe circus with children and young people has proved a wonderful context for fostering relationships between older and younger children, between adults and children, between the arts and the need for a healthy lifestyle.

“We are moving forward with developing relationships with children’s circus organisations across the globe, bringing them here to Warwick to celebrate, self-confidence and a healthy, energetic lifestyle.”

The show can be seen at 4pm on Wednesday (August 5) and the following day, at 4pm and 7pm on Friday August 7, and at 3pm on both August 8 and August 9.
