SPA Opera have plenty to sing about.

The Leamington-based amateur theatre group are celebrating winning the Best Musical Award in the Midlands from the National Operative & Dramatic Association – which supports the development of amateur theatre – for Jesus Christ Superstar.

staged at the Spa Centre last autumn.

Spa Opera chairman Neville French said: “It is wonderful to receive this award on behalf of the society and the entire production team and cast.

“JCS was a real challenge to stage, however we knew from the audience reaction during the week that we had managed to deliver a first class show. As such, it’s amazing for that to be recognised by NODA.”

Spa Opera won the same award for their production of Carousel in 2013.

Their next production in October will mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death with the iconic musical Kiss Me Kate, written by Samuel and Bella Spewack, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter.
