THOSE who fought at the Battle of the Somme were remembered in Leamington at the weekend.

A service of commemoration was held at the War Memorial in Leamington on Saturday (July 2) to mark the centenary of the battle.

Organised by the Royal British Legion, Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White, Leamington Mayor Ann Morrison, and Warwick Mayor Christine Cross, were among the dignitaries who attended.

Wreaths were laid with French cornflowers mixed with the red poppies to remember the fallen of the French and British armies were laid.

A whistle was sounded recalling the signal to “go over the top” and readings were given.

After the Last Post was sounded the National Anthem was sung.
