Christmas carol concert helps spreads festive cheer

THE CHRISTMAS spirit was alive in Warwick at the town’s annual carols celebration.

More than 2,500 people gathered in the dramatic surroundings of Warwick Castle on Saturday (December 20) where they were entertained by the choirs of St Mary’s Church and the Royal Spa Brass Band.

The event was compered by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire presenter Annie Othen and saw a host of festive carols, including ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ – selected by competition winner Zoe Allen.

There was also a rendition of ‘Let It Go’ from Disney’s hit movie, Frozen while students from Warwickshire College were invited to photograph the event as part of a social media initiative to engage young talent.

This year’s main sponsors saw their logos projected on to the side of Warwick Castle as part of a light display.

Several Midlands-based businesses – including Philips 66, marketing agency LMMC, JET, Warwick Printing and Leamington Mazda – supported the event, which once again raised funds for local charitable and community causes.

Selwyn Rowley, member of the organising committee said: “It was a fantastic evening, a memorable start to Christmas and everyone seemed to have a really good time.

“We are indebted to the many volunteers for their help and to Warwick Castle and the other sponsors for their considerable support.”
