COURT cases of yesteryear will be reheard in Warwick on April 9.
Unlocking Warwick volunteers at the restored Court House in Jury Street will be recreating some of the cases heard by magistrates in the building in Victorian times.
It is a collaboration with the University of Warwick School of Law, where some of the students are researching Victorian justice and will be playing some of the parts in the drama.
Unlocking Warwick secretary Rick Thompson, who wrote the script, said: “The Warwick Advertiser carried detailed reports of some of the cases heard in the Court House and we have some of the actual words spoken by the police witnesses and the defendants.
“The Petty Sessions were a popular entertainment, so the audience will be encouraged to join in with noisy reactions to the evidence and sentences.
“And one or two members of the audience may be asked to play the parts of accused drunkards and felons.”
The restaging in the Court House ballroom starts at 2.30pm and will last some 30 minutes. Entry is free.
