A MAN who died in an early morning crash on the M40 has been named as Junaid Arif.

Mr Arif from Hodge Hill in Birmingham was killed when his car left the northbound carriageway of the motorway between Longbridge Island and junction 16 for Henley around 1.10am on Thursday (January 14).

His silver Vauxhall Astra is understood to have plunged down an embankment just before a bridge over Stratford Canal and he was thrown from the car.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found a car on the embankment at the side of the carriageway that had suffered considerable damage.

“The man – who is believed to be in his 20s – was found on the carriageway. Sadly there was nothing that could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Mr Arif – known to friends as Jedy – was a charity worker who wanted to help provide clean water to countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh.

A Facebook tribute page has been set up in the wake of his death.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police on 101.
