ONE WOMAN’S dedication to charity has seen her named a Local Community Hero.
Cheryll Rawbone from Leamington has been a champion of children’s charity, the Friendship Project in Warwickshire, for 29 years.
A Chairman at the Coventry branch of insurance broker Arthur J Gallagher, she was nominated for the internal company Local Community Hero award by her colleagues.
The Friendship Project provides support to disadvantaged children, giving them the opportunity to enjoy activities through a mentoring and friendship programme – some 1,500 children have been helped since 1986 when it was established in Coventry.
The 57 year-old , who is married with two grown-up children, received her award at a ceremony in London and was also presented with a £1,000 donation for the charity from her employer.
She said: “It is great to receive this award, and for the charity that I have been closely involved with for just over 29 years to benefit from this donation.
“It will be used to help support interesting and fun visits for the almost 50 disadvantaged children we support in Warwickshire, and will mean approximately 100 visits being possible for disadvantaged children accompanied by our volunteers.”
