PHILIPP Stummer has talent in his hands and feet.
The dancer turned furniture maker has been awarded a Medal for Excellence from the City & Guilds Group in recognition of his outstanding work towards his Furniture Making course at Leamington College.
A former contemporary dancer, Philipp made the transition to furniture making while raising his two young sons.
During his time at the college, Philipp has won a competition to design a donation box for the Coombe Country Park Visitor Centre and scooped the Andrew Varah Award for outstanding furniture-making students.
He has also set up his own business – EarthWoodCrafts – during his studies and is currently working on a project for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford, which involves creating 25 metres of curved benches for the garden at New Place.
Philipp said: “It’s a really prestigious award and great to have at the beginning of my career.”
He was nominated by for the award by course leader Jamie Ward.
