ENERGETIC youngsters were on their marks for a special running event recently.

Since September 2014, Leamington-based charity Kids Run Free has helped more than 200 children run the equivalent of a full marathon.

The 24 primary schools have spent lunchtimes running towards their 26.2mile goal and on Wednesday (July 1) they completed their final few laps at Edmonscote Athletics track.

The charity, which aims to create fun and sustainable running opportunities for kids up to the age of 16, awarded certificates and medals to those who achieved the full marathon distance while there were also prizes for individual schools.

Mayor of Leamington, Coun Amanda Stevens and supporter of Kids Run Free said: “Kids Run Free aims to help children realise their potential through running.

“Its events are about building confidence through physical activity and also of course about having a lot of fun so I’m delighted to be able to give my support.’
