Slimmed down wedding day

CHILDHOOD sweethearts were determined to look their best on their wedding day.

And after much hard work which saw them ditch nights out drinking for after work gym sessions, Matt and Hannah Bradley walked up the aisle a combined ten stone lighter.

The Leamington couple, both 23, knew they had to lose weight before their big day.

Matt tipped the scales at a hefty 18 stone but managed to lose six and-a-half by dieting with his wife-to-be Hannah, who also shed three and-a-half stone.

And Matt’s job surrounded by food as a chef in the Wolsley canteen made losing weight easier said than done.

He said: “Most of mine and Hannah’s money went on takeaways and nights out. Getting a job as a chef didn’t help because I spent my days picking at food – I could easily eat three or four times a day at work.

“I was a lot less active than I had been when I was younger and it showed. On one hand I was really happy and secure with Hannah but my confidence had taken a real nosedive and I was very self-conscious about my size. I had to buy XXL clothes and I hated seeing photographs of myself.”

With the wedding just 18 months away, the pair joined the Whitnash Slimming World group to help them get in shape.

And after losing nearly 7lbs in the first week an inspired Matt joined a local gym and even signed up to do the 10k Wolf Run.

But the biggest confidence boost was when his own GP didn’t recognise him because he was so slim and told him his new diet had made such an impact on his health that he could even stop using his inhalers.

Matt says keeping fit and eating well is a lifestyle choice, and one he does not plan on changing.

He said: “A lot of people commented on how hard it must be to lose weight while working as a chef. The difference is I know how to make healthier choices now. When I check the food I’m cooked I just taste a small spoonful rather than eating loads.

“I reached my target weight of 11 and-a-half-stone two days before our wedding. Even though we have always been happy with each other, we weren’t happy with ourselves. Now we both have so much more energy and confidence, we are excited about starting married life together.”
