SUCCESS was on the menu for a Kenilworth conference chef.

Mary Palecek won first place in the junior category of the 2016 UK Copper Skillet Competition after a cook off competition against 20 chefs from conference venues around the UK.

Mary, who is Senior Chef de Partie at Woodside in Kenilworth, emerged victorious thanks to her verison of surf ‘n turf – sautéed beef fillet and king prawns on a bed of spinach and vegetable ribbons with a salsa verde.

The competition, which is run by the International Association of Conference Centres (IACC), is designed to showcase the artistry and skill of the best chefs from IACC member conference centres.

The 24-year-old will now go on to compete at the IACC Europe final in the Netherlands in September.

Commenting on her success, Mary said: “I’m incredibly proud to have won the Copper Skillet Competition, especially considering the tough competition.

“It’s an honour to hold the junior title for the UK and also represent Woodside – I’m really looking forward to the European final in September.”
