TRIBUTES have been paid to a “wonderful mother, sister and daughter” who was killed while cycling near Southam.

Kate Vanloo, from Napton-on-the-Hill, died after a head on collision with a car just outside the village on Holt Lane, near to Headlands Farm, shortly before 10.45am on Sunday (January 3).

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived on scene they discovered a cyclist lying in the road following a collision with a car.

“Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that due to the serious injuries suffered in the incident that nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the car, a woman believed to be in her 60s, was treated for the effects of shock and discharged on scene while a second cyclist, also a woman, did not require medical attention.”

Kate’s family were keen to thank the mum-of-three’s friends for their support since the crash.

In a statement, they added: “While we are all trying to come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful mother, sister, daughter and friend we are mindful that Kate died doing something that she truly loved and was her passion.”

Kate, 52, was an active member of Rugby Triathlon Club – in competition and organising events and activities.

A spokesperson for the club said: “It was with great sadness that Rugby Triathlon Club has learned recently of the tragic death of our popular fellow member Kate Vanloo following a collision with a car whilst cycling.

“Kate touched many of our lives as a fierce and determined triathlon competitor, a great coach and as a valuable member of the club’s management committee.

“Several of the club’s perpetual trophies bear testament to her competitiveness. She will be greatly missed by all of us.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision – which involved a white Toyota Yaris – or has any information about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
