MYSTERY surrounds the reason two women were in the River Leam early on Tuesday morning (January 12).
Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to reports of a person in the river at the bottom of The Parade around 7am.
By the time they arrived the woman was already out of the water and was walking barefoot along the road. She was reported as needing medical attention and was taken to hospital.
But emergency services received reports another woman was also in the water. They searched the area but no one else was found. It was later confirmed the second woman was safe and well.
