Alex Atkinson leads the way for Kenilworth Runners in Ilmington

ALEX Atkinson led a team of 15 Kenilworth Runners home at the fourth race in the Five Temp Events Winter Series in Ilmington on Sunday.

Atkinson produced an impressive performance across the 10km course to finish ninth overall and third in the MV45 category after crossing the finish line in a time of 41.47.

Team mate Wayne Briggs finished immedietely behind in tenth position after finishing just six second behind in 41.53 to take third in the MV35 with the pair pushing each other on for most of the race after swapping positions several times.

Clive Pearce enjoyed his first Ilmington 10km run and coped well with the hills to finish 28th in a respectable time of 44.36, while Dave Pettifer secured his fourth consecutive first place position in the V65 category, albeit a bit slower than his previous three runs after crossing in 47.15.

For the ladies, Laura Pettifer finished third LV35 in 47.18, Stef Lunn was fifth senior lady over the line in 50.44 and Ros Brooks took eighth place in the LV35 category in a time of 51.55, while Pauline Dable was second in LV65.

The race was won by Richard Shepherd of Stratford upon Avon Athletics Club in 36.35 and Kate Wright was the first lady home.
