LEAMINGTON continued their 100 per cent start to the 2016/17 season after recording back-to-back wins on the road at Kettering Town on Tuesday night.

Brakes followed up Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Cirencester Town with a 2-0 win at Polwell Lane which puts the Brakes second in the early Evostick Southern League Premier Division table.

The visitors almost went in front with two minutes played but Jack Edwards headed narrowly over the bar, while at the other end Spencer Weir-Daley shot straight at Breeden on eight minutes.

The Brakes came close again to breaking the deadlock two minutes later when Ron Thompson-Brown struck a superbly taken free kick which Walker saved onto the bar and the rebound at goal was blocked by a home defender.

The opening goal of the match eventually came with 23 minutes on the clock. A swift counter attack saw Ahmed Obeng beat his full-back before finding a way past Walker at his near post.

It could have been 2-0 at the break had it not been for a Kettering defender who was able to make an important block after Thompson-Brown was played in on goal by Obeng.

Leamington pressed hard for a second after the break and created a number of opportunities before the Walker was beaten again 13 minutes from time.

After Baker-Richardson had struck the bar and Obeng fired wide from eight yards out, the visitors were awarded a penalty when Obeng was brought down inside the area and Ryan Rowe stepped up to fire home his third goal of the season.

Kettering thought they had found a way back into the match eight minutes from time but the goal was ruled out for an offside infringement and Leamington were able to hold out for a second consecutive win.
