Ball brothers maintaining the medal-winning tradition

LEAMINGTON brothers Ray and Gabriel Ball are carrying on a family tradition of winning medals on the race track after both finished first in their respective events at the Warwickshire and Leicestershire County Athletics Championships.

The two boys, who both attend Myton School and Sixth Form, competed at Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium in Leicester last Sunday.

Gabriel, 12, won the Under-13 boys’ 200m event with an impressive time of 27.18 seconds, which, although not his personal best, was the overall winner for both Warwickshire and Leicestershire.

His older brother Ray, 17, won the Under 20 Men’s 5000m in 17.5 minutes.

Speed on the tracks runs in the Ball family. The boys’ father ran for Warwickshire and their grandfather was the fastest 100m sprinter in the Royal Air Force for the whole of the British Isles.
