'Bomber' Chris Harris set to lead Bees in 2015

SKIPPER Chris Harris will return for his tenth season with the Bees to lead the club once again in 2015.

Harris has won three Elite League titles at Brandon and led the club to the Grand Final earlier this year.

He will return next year as captain in search of his fourth league title after some truly inspirational performances in the campaign which recently ended in defeat to champions Poole.

“Bomber is our captain, he leads by example and we’re all delighted that he’s coming back,” said Bees promoter Mick Horton.

“He’s full of confidence which he proved on our great run last season, he truly warrants his return to the team and I’m sure it will be a very popular choice.

“He has a new backroom team as well, and I think we’re seeing him back to his very best. It’s exciting times ahead for Bomber and the club and we’re looking forward to it.”

Harris thrilled spectators at the track and television viewers with one of the rides of the season to pass Swindon duo Troy Batchelor and Nick Morris in the August clash between the clubs, just one day after an horrific smash in the Latvian Grand Prix.

And one of his best-ever performances for the club came when he charged to an 18-point maximum in the Bees’ momentous win over King’s Lynn.

Harris will also be staging his Testimonial meeting at Brandon in 2015 which will enable fans to pay tribute to one of the club’s all-time heroes.

Bees have also confirmed they will welcome back both Jason Garrity and James Sarjeant as their reserves as plans for next season continue to take shape.

The Bees are the only one of the eight clubs to retain the same combination as in 2014 following the selections made at Wednesday’s draft meeting.

Both riders proved hugely popular with supporters this year and Garrity from the outset was one of the top reserves in the league.

His stand-out display was an incredible 17-point haul in a tense away win at Wolverhampton, during which he beat several of the home side’s established middle-order riders.

Sarjeant, meanwhile, recovered from two heavy crashes in mid-season to play a crucial role in the Bees’ charge for the play-offs.

Horton added: “We had protection on Jason, and we’re delighted to have him back because initially he didn’t want to do the draft, he wanted to be in the main body of the team.

“Sarj is a definite bonus for us, and we couldn’t have wished for a better pick. There was a chance he could have been chosen elsewhere, but it just goes to show the strength of the draft this year with some extra riders coming in.

“It will be a lot closer in terms of abilities, but from our point of view to get Sarj is brilliant and we have that continuity there, which is important.”
