Bridger backs out of Coventry Bees for new season

Leamington Editorial 25th Feb, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

LEWIS Bridger will not be taking up his place with the Bees for the forthcoming 2015 season.

Bees had persuaded the British rider to move to Brandon last month after previous signing Cameron Woodward was forced to withdraw from the team after breaking his femur.

Woodward picked up the injury after suffering a crash last September and he has been told by a surgeon in Brisbane that he will be out of action until at least the middle of the year.

Bridger had reversed his previous decision to take time out of the sport to replace Woodward.

But this week Bees have confirmed they have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere to fill the now vacant team place.

A series to tweets by Bridger seem to indicate a fallout between himself and the Bees management.

On Monday he tweeted: “I needed a small loan from Coventry to buy me some second hand engines.

“But they are unable to do so. In my opinion a very unprofessional club with lack of communication between riders and management.”

He want on to add: “Mick Horton (Bees promoter) couldn’t organise a stag do let alone anything else.”

In a statement released by the Horton

Bees will now have to look at their options to find a replacement rider in time for the start of the new season on March 6.

Horton added: “I’m not prepared to get dragged into a war of words over this, so all I can say is that as a club we are very disappointed with Lewis Bridger, and we will not be commenting any further.” said Bees promoter Lewis Bridger.

“We must now focus on our efforts to bring in another rider, and hopefully we will have some news on that in the near future.”
