YOUNGSTER Morgan Ansell will take her first steps towards representing her country after selected to attend a Great Britain open talent day this weekend.

The Leamington teenager, who trains at Clearys Boxing Club, caught the eye of the GB coaching team after winning the National Championships earlier this year and looks set to travel to Sheffield this Sunday.

Morgan, who has also been asked to attend an England get-together, is currently competing in the 44kg category and is just a little light for the international weight category of 46kg, but Morgan has the off-season to prepare and move up to the next level.

“Morgan will take all this in her stride,” said coach Edwin Cleary. “She’s a very strong character Being the first female at Clearys boxing gym to compete which takes some doing.

“She attends the flag squads over the last year sparring all around the UK and trains alongside several England squad members on flag. All this I’m sure will help her to settle in with the England team.”
