FORMER Clearys boxing Mike Cole made a dream start to life as a professional after beating Tamworth’s Matt Seawright in Coventry on Saturday night thanks to a third round stoppage.

Cole started the first round slowly and picked his shots as he eased his way into the fight before landing a strong bakc hand which cut his opponents nose. The Leamington boxer picked up the pace and landed several clean combinations to take the opening round.

It was more of the same in the second with Seawright beginning to struggle but as Cole tried to finish his opponent by the ropes he turned his foot and the doctor later told him he had sprained his ankle.

Despite the setback Cole began the third round strongly and a left hook cut Seawright above the right eye and as the round came to a close Seawright could not continue and his corner pulled him out of the fight.

“It’s a great feeling winning my first professional fight,” said Cole. “Loads of lads from Clearys boxing gym have wanted to and said they were going to turn pro but haven’t, so it was great to be the first.

“The whole setup on the night made me feel special. I’m not getting carried away with things as there’s bigger tests to come but to be a professional boxer is a dream. I’m living my dream so let’s see where this goes.”

Cole’s next fight is scheduled for September back in Coventry.
