KENILWORTH Runners’ Stuart Hopkins enjoyed a tremendous run to come home in first position in a time of 17:01 to win the 227th Coventry Parkrun in the Memorial Park on Saturday.

Hopkins’ display was matched by fine performances from Louise Andrews and Laura Pettifer, pushing each other to new PBs and 1st and 2nd ladies respectively in 20:53 and 20:57 (both recorded incorrectly on the Parkrun website).

New member Gary Mitchell had an excellent run with a new PB of 20:58.

SIX Kenilworth Runners completed the 172nd Leamington Parkrun at Newbold Comyn on Saturday and Chris Simkiss was first home for the club in 13th position in a time of 19:28.

THE SPRINGBURN Parkrun in Glasgow on Saturday featured Runner Neil Smith who ran well to finish in 13th position in a time of 20:36. The time was just outside his Parkrun PB.

THE ABINGDON Parkrun on Saturday saw Runner Stewart Underhill finish in 19th position in a time of 20:32.

CHRIS McCarthy competed in the 10km de la Cote de Beaute in St George de Didonne, France, on Sunday whilst on holiday and finished fourth in a time of 33:58.

The race is a two-lap course taking in one hill on each lap, starting in St George de Didonne in the south west of France.

KENILWORTH Runners’ Matthew Kingston-Lee finished 11th and bettered his old PB by nearly a half a minute at the Notts AC 5-Mile Road Race last Wednesday.

The evening race was held in warm, sunny conditions, with temperatures still in the mid-20s Celsius come the 7.30pm start.

Held on Victoria Embankment in Nottingham, the 190 finishers tackled a flat, fast course, which was afflicted by a strong headwind in the final 2/3s mile on each of the two laps raced.

Making a strong start, Kingston-Lee found himself in around 17th position halfway around the first lap, tactically opting to use the shelter of a group of runners from the headwind.

He pushed on at the start of the second lap to pass six runners by the end of the race, including the winning lady Juliet Potter of Charnwood AC (27:57).

He was delighted to finish in 27:53, bettering his old PB – set in 2012 – by 26 seconds. The race was won by Alistair Watson of Notts AC in 24:40.

THE BRITISH Masters Veterans Inter-Area Match in Solihull last Tuesday featured Runner Phil Gould who made his Midlands veterans debut following selection in an inter-area match over 1,500m.

He finished in third position in 4:16:32, just two one hundredths of a second from second place (following a photo finish) and two seconds behind the winner Luke Humphries from Eastern Veterans.

THE MIDLAND 3,000m Championship at Kirby Corner track in Coventry saw Kenilworth Runners’ Paddy Roddy improve his 3,000m personal best by 17 seconds to 8.55 in a highly competitive Midland Championship, finishing 14th overall, but second Warwickshire finisher.
