A DAVIS Cup tie of a different kind took place at Kenilworth Tennis, Squash and Croquet Club earlier this month in memory of former club member David Davis.

Mixed doubles teams came together to take part in the annual ‘Davis Cup’ at the Crackley Lane venue, with a total of 28 players taking to the courts.

The event, which took place on April 10, was once again organised by his wife Janet Davis who provided prizes and a cup for the winning team.

Teams of four went up against other ‘countries’ with organiser Anne Holmes picking the the names of the teams from which the top players are from.

It proved to be a closely faught contest with three teams scoring the same numbers of points but it was Poland who went on to win the tournament.

The club’s new chairman Richard Simmons captained the side and he was helped along the way by Sally Broome and new club players Ross Campbell and Natash Holmes.
