Kenilworth settle for a draw at home to Standard

AN EXCITING finish at Forge Road ended in disappointment for KENILWORTH after they lost their last four wickets for seven runs as they failed to chase down 159 at home to Standard with both sides settling for 16 points each.

Kenilworth’s seamers Steve Rhodes and Matt Dargan had fine games opening the bowling attack for Saturday’s Warwickshire League Division One encounter.

Rhodes took 4 for 33 thanks to three catches behind the stumps by keeper Tom Booker, while Dargan, although wicketless, bowled eight hostile overs that went for only 11 runs.

The spin trio of skipper Chris Prophet, Ed Ruswa and Charlie Stranks then took over and ripped through the Standard line-up despite Steve Vaughan making 46 and he was supported by Liam Windridge (29 not out) and Stuart Hormanschuk (23).

Dave Edmunds hit a fine 56 with 11 boundaries and Chris Prophet added 48, which included seven fours, to set the side up for a win but there was an unlikely and cruel ending.

The tail did not wag as the Standard bowlers found second wind to snap up the remaining wickets to leave Kenilworth all out on 159 with 12 overs of the match remaining.

The draw leaves Kenilworth sitting fifth in the table with seven games remaining.
