A GROUP of girls from Kenilworth came away from the West Midlands Tag League tournament with a second place finish.

Despite having no substitutes after travelling to Shipston Rugby Club with the minimum requirement of seven players, Kenilworth managed to finish runner-up out of 14 teams.

The sunny start belied the cold wind that whipped across Shipston and the Kenilworth girls were handed a reasonable draw for their first round and started off against Kings Norton.

The opening match ended with a narrow 5-4 win but that quickly got into their stride and comfortably dispatched Shipston C 9-1.

Kenilworth then went on to play the winners of the other pools which included a another convincing 9-1 win over Old Laurentians Reds to reach the final where they came up against Evesham.

Both teams produced some great pieces of play and the match was perfectly poised at 5-4 by the break.

Kenilworth came out fighting after the re-start with every player pulling their weight but they ended up losing 8-6 and were made to settle for second place.
