LIZ Powell ended her season in style by at the weekend by winning her second consecutive Midland Women’s Series title.

The Kenilworth-based Mike Vaughan Cycles Team rider travelled to Marlborough in Wiltshire for the RTTC National ten-mile Championships on Saturday.

Powell lined up against a strong field of riders on the hilly course and finished in a competitive time of 23:50 which saw her take eighth overall.

She was also the only rider over the age of 40 to finish inside the top ten which was enough to claim a second national age group medal of the season after winning the 25-mile title earlier this year.

There was to be no rest for Powell as she was back in action the following day for her last competitive race of the season which was the Midland Women’s Time Trial series at the populat Wolvey course.

Despite a strong headwind on the return leg, Powell won in emphatic style with well over a minute between her and the second placed rider.

It was a second consecutive series win for the Mike Vaughan Cycles rider with Rosie Armitage (Echolon Rotor) close behind in second place.

The weekend’s results bring to a close a very successful season for Powell and she said: “I am very pleased with this season’s results.

“Adding the 25 national age group champions medal to the ten is a highlight as is the British Emergency Services Championship both of which I am hoping to build on next year.”

Powell is anticipated to continue her successful relationship with the Kenilworth based Mike Vaughan Cycles in 2016.
