Matt Clinton and Liz Powell find winning form

IT was another busy weekend for the Mike Vaughan Cycles team with Liz Powell and Matt Clinton taking wins.

Powell was first in action by defending her Janet Kelly Memorial trophy at the ten-mile Beacon RC Open Time Trial near Alcester.

With breezy conditions creating a difficult final leg, Powell was last off with previous winner Rosie Armitage taking to the course minutes before.

The Kenilworth-based rider delivered a confident performance and took almost a minute off her previous time for the course in 22:38,  which was enough to put 30 seconds between her and Armitage to retain the trophy for another year.

Powell was joined by Clinton on Saturday at the Royal Sutton CC ten-mile event at Dunchurch.

A stronger field would provide tough competition for Powell, but the faster course would yield a great result and a new personal best time of 22.04, which was not enough to clinch the win.

Clinton was the last man off an he had to do better then in-form Matt Sinclair who was the man to beat.

Still building form after shingles earlier in the season, the fast course would see how his recovery would be going.  And he crossed the line in 19.17 which was quick enough to secure the win by five seconds.
