Matt Warren leads by example as Warwick beat Four Oak Saints

A BRILLIANT all-round performance from captain Matt Warren lifted WARWICK to victory away at Four Oaks Saints’ second string side on Bank Holiday Monday.

Warren led from the front whilst batting with a half century and finished by collecting three wickets and conceding just one run from 3.1 overs to ensure Warwick maintained their promotion charge with a maximum 24 points.

Warwick lost the toss and were asked to bat first, however openers Burke (34) and Passey (35) got the visitors off to a brisk start in the Division Five encounter before both departed in quick succession to leave Warwick on 86 for 2.

Jon Davis (38) partnered skipper Warren (51) as the score eventually climbed past 200, and a late cameo from Rajan Bhatti (28 off 22) ensured Warwick ended up on a healthy 243 for 9.

It was a decent all round bowling performance in reply for Warwick as first Bhatti (2 for 24) and Austin (1 for 18) softened up the Four Oaks top order and they were assisted by Darren Wyatt (1 for 12) and Hope (2 for 48) as wickets fell at regular intervals.

However due to some stubborn batting, especially for the sixth and seventh wickets, Warwick left it late and Warren’s fantastic spell of 3 for 1 in the death overs pushed Warwick to victory.
