NEWBURGH Girls’ seven-a-side football team are celebrating after being crowned Central Warwickshire Champions.
The youngsters from Newburgh Primary School faced Coten End’s in the final of the Central Warwickshire seven-a-side competition, which took place last month.
After a tense final, neither side could find a breakthrough with the match finishing goalless but the girls from Newburgh held their nerve to win the penalty shootout 2-1 and lift the trophy.
“I am very proud of the way the girls have approached their fixtures since September,” said headteacher Andrew Smith.
“Despite being a young team they have taken on much older children without fear. To come away victorious in such a close final was testament to their spirit and tenacity.”
Newburgh now progress to the County finals (as the Central Area champions) to be played on Thursday 21st January at Claverdon.
