Phillip Gould leads the way for Kenilworth

KENILWORTH Runners finished tenth in the final race of this season’s Birmingham League XC to finished eighth overall in Division One and match their best ever position in the event.

Phillip Gould, who has performed consistently all season for Kenilworth, led the team home at Pittville Park in Cheltenham on Saturday by finishing in a time of 32:36 to finish 38th.

He was followed by men’s captain Stephen Page who crossed in 33:20 to take 51st and another Kenilworth ever-present, Stuart Hopkins, finished 57th in a time of 33:34.

Paul Andrew (34:07), Marc Curtis (35:41) and Matt Dyer (35:48) completed the Kenilworth team scorers and the race was won by Jonny Davies of Birmingham University in 30 minutes.




The ladies team also put in a strong performance in Cheltenham to finish 20th out of 37 teams which was enough to secure 9th overall in Division Two over the four events.

Louise Andrews led the team home again with a 74th position finish in a time of 27:01 and she was followed by Stef Lunn in 101st (28:16) and Justine Willis who crossed in 102nd (28:16). The race was won by Nicola Sykes of Bourneville Harriers in 22:04.


Elsewhere, Mark Hall finished a respectable 636 out of 1670 finisher in the Wokingham Half Marathon on Sunday.

Hall finished in 1:41:19 and the race was won by Paul Martelletti of Victoria Park Harriers in 1:04:18.
