MONTHS of dedicated training paid off for two of Leamington Swimming Club’s performance swimmers when they competed in the ASA National Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield.

Felicity Dempster, 14, produced some great swims in the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle events. In the demanding 800m race, Dempster dug deep to achieve a new personal best time of 9.24.94.

Team-mate and Warwickshire and Midland Champion Ellen Stone, 17, took on some tough competition in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events and some gutsy swimming was rewarded with a place in the 200m semi-final in which she recorded a time of 2.43.20.

For her though, the highlight was the 100m sprint in which she raced against Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte, the current world record holder and Olympic gold medallist.

Leamington Swimming Club Performance Coach Graham Nash said he was delighted with the girls’ performances.
