Warwickshire ladies end 2016 season on a high

THE FINAL match of the season is always played in good spirits and that proved to be the case when Warwickshire Ladies beat Stoke Ladies 128-92.

Highest winning rink went to skip Di Thurlbeck with Ann Doherty and Chris Ward (all Lillington) and Jean Hagues (Rugby Ladies) who were in determined mood and set off at a pace against Chris Roberts and her Stoke team to eventually win 23-8.

Jean Petty (Norgren) with Antoinette Lambert (Ambleside), Linda Linney and Jean Williams (Stratford) faced Di Wilkinson’s Stoke team and were struggling at the start before they drew level at 12 ends, and a determined effort saw them pull ahead to win 28-15.

Maureen Edwards with Yvonne Bromfield (both Rugby Thornfield), Margaret Grosvenor (Lillington) and Liz Chedgzoy (Stratford)/Barbara Harsant (Solihull Municipal) who shared the game, played against Pat Moore’s 3 spires team and were fairly evenly matched until the 12th end when three consecutive scores of 3 put them ahead and they went on to finish 23-14.

Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) with Joy Cooke (Blossomfield), Janet Greenwell (Wolvey) and Sigrid Thomas (Rugby Thornfield) started strongly but a determined effort by their Stoke opposition headed by Elaine Taylor kept them at bay and the eventual score line was 19-15 to the County.

Jenny Corn (Lillington) with Chris Harrison (Ambleside), Di and Barry Medhurst (Stoke) were also fairly evenly matched against Helen Harris’s Stoke team but struggled to hold their own until the final few ends when they were able to finish with what was considered an honourable draw 17-17.

Jacqui Cook with Jayne Henfrey (both Lillington), Christine Harding (Rugby Thornfield) and Mo Yeomans (Blossomfield) were fairly evenly matched to start with, but the opposition from Bilton Club headed by Elaine Cresswell were the stronger for the middle section and even 5 shots on the 13th end weren’t enough to help the County team as they went on to finish 18-23 adrift.

After a very enjoyable fish and chip supper with lots of laughter and chat the President was delighted to be able to present a Colt badge to Jean Williams (Stratford).
