A QUARTET of bowlers from Royal Leamington Spa Bowls Club made history at the National Finals at Victoria Park in Leamington.

The women’s four of Michelle Meadowcroft, Emily Kernick, Ellie Hamblett and Kirsty Richards became the first rink from the club to win the competition.

They are also the first team representing Warwickshire to triumph in the competition since 1949 – some 75 years ago.

The Leamington quartet claimed the first trophy of the National Finals with an impressive 22-9 win against Somerset in the final.

Warwickshire embarked on an incredible run to the final, beginning the competition with a 25-13 preliminary round success against Yorkshire.

And the quartet then thrashed Bedfordshire 31-3 in round one before beating Essex 20-12 in round two.

Another solid display saw the women overcome Devon 18-8 in the quarter-finals.

And Warwickshire made a statement of intent in their semi-final with a convincing 30-7 success against Kent.

Warwickshire met Somerset in the final and restricted their opponents to a single figure score in another dominant performance to lift the trophy.
