Stratford-Upon-Avon Chamber Music Society mark diamond jubilee with special concert

Leamington Editorial 20th Sep, 2024   0

STRATFORD-UPON-AVON Chamber Music Society is marking its 60th anniversary with a concert by Roderick Williams.

The renowned baritone, whose credits include singing at the Last Night of the Proms and at King Charles’s coronation, will sing at Stratford Town Hall on October 9.

He is performing Schubert’s Schwanengesang (Swan Song), a song-cycle that takes the listener through the ups and downs of a young man’s pursuit of his lover.

Some of the original figures who helped set up the society were connected with the Birmingham University’s Shakespeare Institute and, until 2020, the concerts were held in its premises at Mason Croft, helping to fulfil Marie Corelli’s desire that her former home should be a place of culture and performance.

Since the university no longer makes the music room there available, concerts are now held either in Stratford Town Hall or the United Reformed Church.

Tickets for the concert cost £30 (students £5). A season ticket which includes this and a further four concerts through to next March costs £100.
