South Warwickshire's first-of-its-kind SEND provision opens its doors to families

THE FIRST specialist facility for SEND children in south Warwickshire is now officially open.

The Dovecote, based at Shipston Primary School – part of The Stour Federation Trust, will offer first-of-its-kind support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in the south Warwickshire area and follows nine years of campaigning.

The provision is designed to support children with complex needs relating to communication and interaction, including those with autism.

The Dovecote will equip children with the tools they need to flourish and meet their full potential. Through collaboration with the school, parents, carers and Warwickshire County Council, the provision will focus on developing self-regulation skills, increasing independence, and preparing children for their future.

Admission to The Dovecote will be available for children up to Year 4 with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP). Placements will be managed in conjunction with the Warwickshire High Needs Panel to ensure children needing the support most are able to access it.

Local families were recently welcomed into the new provision for an open afternoon. Children had the opportunity to meet the specialist staff and to explore the setting which has been kitted out with equipment and decorations designed bespoke for supporting children with SEND.

Lisa Pang, trust SENDCo for The Stour Federation, said: “After months of campaigning, hard work and collaboration, we are delighted to have officially launched The Dovecote for children in the Warwickshire area. We know first-hand how much this high-quality provision is needed, so that children can really thrive within their education and beyond.

“It was great meeting the children and families who will benefit from The Dovecote offering and we look forward to welcoming, and working with, many more in the months and years to come.”
