BEARS Women’s player Issy Wong has been awarded an England development contract for the 2025 season.

Wong is one of 17 players awarded central contracts in the latest list issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The development contract will see Wong supported by England’s management team over the next 12 months.

And the decision indicates the national side see the 22-year-old as part of their future plans.

Wong said: “I’m pleased to have been given a development contract. I’ve enjoyed being a part of the national setup, and to continue developing with them as well as the Bears.

“I’m really looking forwards to an exciting summer with both England and the Bears.”

Wong made her England bow in June 2022, when she was included in England’s test squad against South Africa.

The seamer was then involved in an ODI squad which also took on South Africa a month later.

Wong took three wickets on her debut ODI. She then represented England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, before making her women’s T20 international debut in July 2022.

The former WPL winner with Mumbai Indians was then subsequently rewarded with her first central contract in November 2022.

Durham’s Bess Heath and Surrey’s Ryana MacDonald-Gay have also been handed Development Contracts by the ECB alongside Wong.
