Stage set for 450th anniversary celebrations of Elizabeth I's visit to Kenilworth

THE STAGE is being set for celebrations to mark 450 years since Queen Elizabeth I’s visit to Kenilworth.

The Talisman Theatre is teaming up with Kenilworth Town Council to mark the momentous occasion in the town’s history.

The theatre will be presenting a programme of live performance, film, visual art, and community creativity inspired by the Elizabethan age.

This includes The Queen’s Players: An Elizabethan Fringe Night on Thursday July 3, a screening of Elizabeth: The Golden Age starring Cate Blanchett at the Talisman Cinema on Saturday July 5 and Made in 48 Hours Presents: Queen E Rocks on Sunday July 27.

Created by the daring Made in 48 Hours team, this one-night-only musical comedy mashes up history and hilarity with live music, questionable accuracy, and non-stop fun.

All proceeds from the performance will go to Warwickshire Vision.

Other highlights include a Plein Air Art Exhibition featuring local artists on Saturday August 23 and Sunday August 24, and  The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) running from Monday August 25 to Saturday August 30.

This promises to be a side-splitting sprint through all 37 plays in just 97 minutes.

Queen Elizabeth I spent 19 days at Kenilworth Castle in 1575, famously hosted by the Earl of Leicester, Robert Dudley.

Talisman Theatre spokesperson Sam Harris said: “It’s a real honour for the Talisman to play a part in this landmark moment for Kenilworth. From history lovers to comedy fans and art enthusiasts, there’s something in our programme for everyone — and we’re thrilled to help bring the story of Elizabeth I to life in creative and accessible ways for our community.”
