A REVAMPED play area in Leamington is already proving a hit.
The playground at Mill Gardens has reopened following the installation of a range of new equipment, enhanced safety surfaces, accessibility improvements and sensory displays.
The project was led by Warwick District Council and designed with feedback from Evergreen School.
Children and project partners turned out to try the new facilities, which include a bespoke ‘Elephant’ slide to represent the history of the location.
Those attending included representatives from Leamington Town Council who funded the accessibility elements of the project, play and design experts Proludic and Widgit, Everest Clinic, Leam Boat Centre, staff and pupils from Evergreen School as well as officers and councillors from WDC.
WDC’s neighbourhood spokesperson Coun Will Roberts said: “It’s great to see what a really positive outcome collaborative working can bring. In this case a wonderful new play area which not only brings fun and physical challenge, but can also help with learning, social mobility and accessibility particularly for those with SEND needs.
“On behalf of the council I would like to thank all the partners involved in providing such a great asset for our local community.”
Nick Evans, executive headteacher at Evergreen School continued: “It’s wonderful to have been involved in the planning and design of the new play area at Mill Gardens. Warwick District Council has always promoted an inclusive approach to public areas and coupled with the communication boards in play areas and parks across the district. This playground is yet another example of a project designed to be accessible to all. Thank you on behalf our children, young people and their families.”
Leamington mayor Coun Ruggy Singh added: “The town council is pleased to have contributed funding towards this newly redesigned play area, which includes accessible play equipment designed to meet the needs of children with different abilities. Projects like this help create more inclusive, welcoming spaces for families across the town. We hope that many locals will enjoy this new addition in 2026 and beyond.”
As part of the same project the Castle Farm play area in Kenilworth has undergone a similar refurbishment in partnership with Evergreen School, incorporating a range of accessible features and equipment.
